THE CHILDREN'S SCHOOL
We offer research-based excellence in teaching and learning
We offer research-based excellence in teaching and learning
Our Early Years programs emerge from our belief in children as strong and capable learners, rich with wonder, curiosity and knowledge. They receive the dignity and respect of very important people. The program is led by a highly qualified and experienced team of educators with training from Harvard Graduate School of Education, Reggio Emilia Institute, High Scope and with international teaching experience.
Throughout the Early Childhood program, students at The Children’s School experience a safe, nurturing environment, one that facilitates a smooth, comfortable transition from home to school and allows for the introduction of life skills that are essential at a young age. Social and emotional skill building is one of the most important parts of the Early childhood program. With support and encouragement from their teachers, students learn how to be open to new experiences and willing to take risks. Teachers introduce, encourage and support the practice of sharing, taking turns and cooperative play. Classroom Learning Centres allow children to make choices, complete self-chosen tasks and develop their ability to work with other children and adults in a cooperative and collaborative environment.

OUR
CURRICULUM

The program has at its core an Emergent Curriculum that is connected with the children’s everyday life experiences. This is a child-driven curriculum that is based on the interests and needs of the children. Teachers observe, record, and analyse children’s interests and develop the topics of study from those observations. Our curriculum is, therefore, a dynamic one which varies from year to year.

HighScope, a research-based Early Childhood Education approach, provides an umbrella to our emergent curriculum. Key developmental experiences, central to young children’s development, are integrated in the program. Each day encompasses children’s development of language, literacy, numeracy, social-emotional and physical abilities.

We are inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach where the rights of children are respected, the environment supports the learning and the adults and children collaborate in the learning process.
